People Not Affected By Flood Are Trooping Into IDPs - Gov Zulum

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has decried that residents of the state who are not affected by the flood incidents have trooped into Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.

Governor Babagana Zulum stated that the management of the IDP camps has become difficult because of the large number of unaffected persons trooping into the areas.

Zulum stated this on Monday when he officially launched the distribution of relief materials from the federal government and the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to victims of flooding at Bakassi Camp, along Damboa Road, in Maiduguri.

Naija News reported that about 1 million citizens were affected by the flood incident, blamed on the government’s negligence of the Alau Dam, which needed repair of damaged sections.

Governor Zulum said, “We have observed that the influx of non-affected individuals into the camps has made the situation unsustainable. It is challenging to manage the camps efficiently under these conditions.

The Borno State Governor, however, disclosed that his administration would commence a full assessment of communities affected by the flood incident.

He stated the assessment would help the government determine the actual number of residents affected by the flooding.

“We have mobilized resources to ensure that all affected individuals receive the necessary relief items. Additionally, we will assess the affected communities to accurately determine the number of those impacted,” Zulum added.
